I just saw Frozen today, and I have a lot of feelings
I’m not gonna lie - I liked the first half of the movie better than the second half, but only because I could relate to the first half so much because of the underlying portrayals of anxiety and depression, being someone who has struggled with it for a long time. But throughout the entire movie, one thing is clear: The relationship between Anna and Elsa is a very accurate portrayal of the relationships between people who have depression and anxiety, and those who are on the other side of the door trying to reach them.
Elsa is the epitome of someone who suffers from depression/anxiety, and how we shut ourselves away from the world, and how fear can completely control you. She’s been taught that her powers are something to fear, and that they can hurt others if she’s not careful. Her parents love her and are well-meaning, but they don’t want her to show that she’s afraid - and that’s something a lot of parents are guilty of when their children have anxiety or depression. They tell us to keep it hidden, don’t let it show, don’t let them see you cry. And that’s the worst thing you can tell someone who struggles with depression. You start to think it’s better to lock yourself away from the world and do just that - keep it hidden. That way you can’t hurt or disappoint those around you. But in the process of protecting those you love, you end up becoming cold and emotionless and you forget how to feel. You become frozen.
And Anna represents those people in our lives that try so hard to break through the walls, because they care about you and love you that much. They hate to see you hurting, not knowing why you shut yourself off to them, not knowing why you never leave your room, feeling helpless and missing you and just wanting to see you smile again. Anna represents how depression impacts someone’s friends and family and how it hurts them too, even if we don’t mean to hurt them. I think she also represents the kind of person we, as depressed individuals, wish we could be. Anna is bubbly and joyful and loves life and wants to go out there and live it - and those are all the things depression and anxiety take away from us.
We are Elsa’s wanting to be Anna’s, but not knowing how to be.
Lois is the human soul of Superman’s increasingly superhuman world. In a universe that only widens, only becomes more extraterrestrial, metahuman, parahuman, superhuman, she is the “merely” human center of conviction, compassion and resolve that anchors our world — but what a wonderful thing humanity seems to be, through her.

For the callback they made me learn ‘Defying Gravity’. I was doing really well, then I totally cracked on the high, high note at the end. I screamed ‘F***!’ at the top of my lungs. Then, without the piano player, I sang the note again to show that I could actually hit it and I kept going. (Director) Joe says that’s what got me the role. He could see that I was able to play a witch. - Idina Menzel
